Part-time Library Assistant Learning Resources Department Primary Purpose To provide library services support, perform circulation, technical services, and/or acquisitions duties, and enforce all College and Library policies and procedures.

OPC Class and Grade This is a part-time Career Service position with an hourly pay rate.
This position is valid for the current semester only.
Essential Job Functions 1.
Physically mans the Circulation Desk and performs associated tasks in circulation services as needed following policies and procedures as established by the department and the College.
2.
Answers directional and informational questions, referring reference/research questions to the Librarian on duty.
3.
Provides basic computer assistance to students including basic use of Microsoft Office products, library resources, the College portal, and Canvas.
4.
Answers the library telephone, routes calls, takes messages.
5.
Assists with registration of library users and maintenance of user accounts following established procedures.
6.
Processes newly catalogued material following established procedures as needed and reports campus library processing supply needs to appropriate library staff member.
7.
Assists the LTA with collection maintenance activities including shelving, shelf reading, annual inventory, and special projects.
8.
Maintains statistics as needed.
9.
Reports problems with computers, printers, or programs to IT or supervisor on duty.
Notifies coworkers of issue(s).
10.
Explains and enforces Learning Resources' policies, rules, and regulations as well as College policies affecting these areas of operation.
11.
Assists the librarians and library staff in maintaining a scholarly atmosphere in all areas of the library.
12.
Maintains the security of the circulation area and other library-staff only areas by keeping unauthorized persons out.
13.
Performs any other duty as assigned by a librarian, shift lead, or Dean of Learning Resources Description of Additional Duties and Tasks Specific to the Public Services Assistant 1.
Assists with creation of tutorials and videos for use by Learning Resources.
2.
Assists librarians with initiatives, projects, or events.
Description of Additional Duties and Tasks Specific to the Acquisitions Assistant 1.
Unpacks purchases and checks contents against packing list, noting any discrepancies.
2.
Completes requisite tasks in Alma.
3.
Packs materials for shipment to campus libraries.
4.
Assists the Learning Resources Office Specialist with projects as needed.
Description of Additional Duties and Tasks Specific to the Shift Lead 1.
Acts as the supervisor on duty in the evenings and on weekends.
2.
Communicates directly with the Campus Library Manager or Dean of Learning Resources.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 1.
Ability to limit span of control to area of primary purpose, deferring to supervisor any concerns outside the span of control.
2.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of all library transactions, library records, and student records in keeping with College policy, the State of Florida, and federal legislation.
3.
Strong English language skills; ability to communicate professionally and effectively with faculty, administrators, staff, students, and the public in person, by telephone, and by e-mail.
4.
Ability to learn and implement policies and procedures established by the department and the College.
5.
Ability to follow written and verbal directions.
6.
Ability to master library management system software.
7.
Knowledge of or ability to learn relevant computer programs including but not limited to Office products and the College's preferred internet browser.
8.
Ability to adapt to change.
9.
Ability to handle several tasks simultaneously.
10.
Ability to maintain a professional, cooperative, working relationship with all library staff members and College personnel.
11.
Ability to work evenings and weekends as assigned.
12.
Ability to attend training sessions as required.
13.
Ability to perform all of the above job functions for scheduled shift without a significant risk of injury.
14.
Ability to perform all of the above job functions, with minimal direct supervision, within six weeks after the employee begins work.
Other Ergonomic Requirements This position requires the ability to lift ten pounds.
Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
Must be able to bend at the knees and utilize step stools to shift, shelve, and retrieve books and materials.
Must be able to perform tasks such as cutting, labeling, taping, and working at a computer keyboard which involve a reasonable amount of wrist and hand movement.
Qualification Standards Education - Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
